INSULATED GLASS UNIT (IGU)

An Insulated Glass Unit (IGU) consists of two or three panes of glass bonded together with high-strength composite sealants that provide excellent durability and airtightness. The panes are separated by an aluminum spacer filled with desiccant, forming a sealed insulating cavity that delivers outstanding thermal and acoustic insulation.

Compared with conventional double glazing, insulated glass units offer significantly superior performance and are widely used in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings around the world. An IGU is constructed by uniformly spacing multiple glass panes with spacer bars and hermetically sealing the perimeter, creating a dry air or gas-filled cavity between the panes to enhance insulation performance.

The primary components of an IGU include glass panes, warm-edge spacer bars, corner keys, butyl sealant, polysulfide sealant, and desiccant. High-performance insulated glass differs from standard IGUs by incorporating a Low-Emissivity (Low-E) coating on one or more glass surfaces in addition to the sealed insulating cavity. This advanced metallic coating reflects a large portion of solar radiant heat while allowing abundant natural daylight to pass through, significantly improving thermal insulation, reducing cooling loads, and enhancing the building's overall energy efficiency.
